Luke Lewis Cup

 This annual representative match honors Luke Lewis, a dual premiership winner with both the Penrith Panthers and Cronulla Sharks. The event aims to foster a healthy rivalry and showcase top Open Men's talent from both Penrith and Cronulla Junior Leagues

    Event Details

    • DATE: Saturday, 7th June 
    • VENUE: Windsor Stadium
    • Luke Lewis Cup Kick-Off - 3.00pm
    • U15 Kick-Off - 1.00pm (time may change slightly)  
    • U14 Kick-Off - 11.45am (time may change slightly)
    • U13 Kick-Off - 10.30am (time may change slightly)


    Who plays in the Luke Lewis Cup game and the U13, U14 & U15 games? 


    • Luke Lewis Cup - Is a rep squad selected by the Coaches appointed by the Penrith and Cronulla Junior League's. Both districts coaches pick players out of their own Open Men competitions and play against each other in this the second edition of the Luke Lewis Cup.
    • U13, U14 & U15 - Whoever is first on the ladder of Panthers Juniors and Cronulla Juniors competition after June 1 (After Round 7) will play against each other on June 7. This is a weekend off due to long weekend for all other competitions. 
    • NOTE: Luke Lewis Cup is won by the team who wins the Open Men's fixture. The junior games carry no weight to who takes home the Cup. There are winner and runners up medals to be won in the junior games as well as a fantastic chance to showcase 3 of our teams against the best Cronulla can offer in those respective age groups 


    It is sure to be an action packed day celebrating community footy!


    2024 RE-CAP

     The inaugural Luke Lewis Cup, held on June 8, 2024, at Corea Oval, marked a significant event in community rugby league, bringing together top Open Men's players from the Panthers Juniors and Cronulla JRL districts. 


    Panthers Juniors started strong, establishing an 18-0 lead within the first 20 minutes. Cronulla JRL fought back in the second half, with centre Samson Mairi scoring a late try, but the Panthers secured a 36-14 victory. Panthers backrower Alex Myles was named Man of the Match for his outstanding performance. 


    The event was well-received by the community, with a large crowd of a few thousand in attendance, and is set to become an annual fixture, fostering a healthy rivalry between the two districts.


     KEY PERFORMERS

    • Alex Myles: The Panthers backrower was named Man of the Match for his outstanding performance. 
    • Aiden Ryan: Coming off the bench, Ryan made a significant impact by scoring two tries.
    • Henry Tuiafiso: The second-rower contributed with a try and strong defensive efforts.
    • Cronulla Standouts: Hooker Josh Taylor-Myles, centre Samson Mairi, and fullback Tom Carr were notable performers for the Sharks.
